STACI is the experimental first node of a new type of collaborative design space that spans the physical world and the virtual, digital world.

Incubated at Tonsley Innovation District in South Australia, STACI is represented in the physical world by the form of a 12m long by 2.8m wide and 3m high industrial age shipping container which is being adapted to become an interactive, digital age metahuman presence, incorporating sensors, AI and human interaction innovations.

STACI has been created to be part of our startup Future Earth Systems, examining human civilisation’s adaptive journey towards digital age society and global-to-local socio-environmental balance.

The project is embarking on the next stage of operational development and we are seeking a suitable host location.

Co-locating in an inspiring location would be our ideal outcome...in either an urban or rural innovation setting.

Our activities are quite low key, usually involving small group discussions, workshops and brainstorming sessions with thought leaders and systems experts across a range of disciplines, under these three broad headings:

Envisioning

STACI provides a unique setting for discussions and workshops about the future of human civilisation. Using the theme ‘How Will The Future Work?’, we consider how humans might adapt our existing socio-economic system to one which enables inclusive human communities to live in peace and balance with each other and with our environment. Can we imagine and envision how this might work, across the whole eco-system of human endeavour and existence? What is the ideal state we are aiming to achieve? What is the adaption pathway at every scale…for individuals and small groups such as families or communities, for specific sectors, for jurisdictions such as states and nations, for global regions and for the whole of human civilisation? How might we objectively measure progress?

Conceptual and Engineering Design

STACI hosts a range of frameworks for conceptualising the systems and policy platforms needed at local and global scale for supporting the adaption of our existing socio-economic ‘system of systems’ to our future needs. Combining information and social science concepts, STACI provides the liminal space needed for fresh and positive conceptual design, with contemporary digital systems engineering design to assist startups, digital entrepreneurs, policy thought leaders and governments with blue-sky but practical pathways to a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable future.

Trial implementations

STACI incorporates a methodology and program for encouraging and supporting digital technology-enabled systems change. We are interested in most aspects of our socio-economic system, but especially themes such as:

  • waste-to-energy and other systems to enable circular economies
  • integrated infrastructure planning
  • mass-customisation of the health service and other public services
  • systems equity for regional, rural and remote communities
  • global and local digital empowerment
  • environmental, social and governance reporting and effective regulation
  • cultural identity and adaption in the digital age
  • the future of trade and money
  • transitioning to a low carbon economy
  • safety and security in cyberspace and the software supply chain
